Two Hats is finally finished! We watched the complete movie all the way through for the first time on September 20, 2011. Praise the Lord!

We sent it out to a test audience of about 30 people to review and give feedback. Everyone loved it! Some changes have been made based on a few of the suggestions and the movie is even better than before! The film will be released earlier than we had planned - probably November. Today it was sent off to Vision Forum where they will decide if Two Hats is to be shown at the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival in February.

Everything is going well! We're thankful for those of you who have been so supportive and encouraging through the whole process of producing this film. It's been a lot of work, a lot of fun, a LOT of late nights at the computer and your support has been such a help and blessing to us!

We are well into post production by now - 30 minutes in to be exact! We are planning on a 70-80 minute film which would make us almost halfway done. There is still lots to do, but we feel that it's coming together well so far. We have felt God's hand throughout this entire project but especially through this last and most important step. He has definitely been guiding our thoughts and decisions as we edit all the footage together and shape it all into a cohesive story. We ask for your continued prayer in that regard.

Our primary goals for this film are that it:
1) Glorifies our Lord and Savior
2) Makes Christians more aware of missions and what it's like to live on a mission field
3) Brings the lost to Christ
4) Burdens Christians to go to the field themselves

The first trailer for Two Hats will be live this evening! Pretty excited to share it!

Sorry! We had every intention of releasing the trailer this evening but it was contingent on when Kayla and I give a testimony to our church family about the trip. We were scheduled to speak earlier tonight and the plan was to screen the trailer for the church after we were finished. We ended up getting moved to this coming Sunday night. Believe me, I really wanted to make the trailer live tonight but it is also really important that I save the first viewing for my home churc

If you've been following the blog at all you've noticed that the updates pretty much came to a standstill after week two. The reason being we had limited access to the internet and updates were very difficult to make.

We are now back in the states and the editing has begun!

We have chosen the title "Two Hats: That I Might By All Means Save Some"

The title comes from the Biblical principle that Paul taught in 1 Corinthians 9:22 "I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some." The "Two Hats" refers to the requirement for a missionary to adapt his thinking to the culture in which he serves. One must first seek to understand so that he may then be understood. Brad was given the advice to take off the hat of Western culture and put on his "PNG hat" twelve years ago. The man who gave him this advice is named Bob Hargraeves. He moved to PNG over 40 years ago from England and is still living in Brad's town, Mt. Hagen.

Time is practically non-existent here. We often have to look at the phone just to remind ourselves what day of the week it is. One local person told us that there are two times in the day - daytime and nighttime. The only people that need to worry about time are those with clock-in clock-out jobs. He said that in America we have lots of watches and no time; in New Guinea they have no watches and lots of time. 

Our second week of production was event-filled. There are so many things that we shot that I won’t be able to share for sake of time, but here are a few:

Street Preaching
We went along with Brad to a large, open square in town where he did some open air preaching. We estimated a crowd of around 1500 people that gathered to listen. It was quite a sight to behold!

Kids camp
There were about 300 kids that came from all over the Mt. Hagen area to the kids camp last weekend. One of the things that really struck me was how much time was devoted to memorization and study, and how little time was devoted to games and other activities. The kids never looked bored or disengaged. There were 52 professions of faith by the end of camp.

Bugs
We spent some time walking through an area that was thick with vegetation and plenteous with creepy crawlies. Brad caught a blonde colored tarantella that we were able to get some nice close up shots of. A local told us that it was the first time that he had seen a spider that color in his entire life.

Ruti
We took an hour drive from Mt. Hagen to a small village called Ruti. It was here that the tribe Brad works with, the Jikkas, was exiled by the government years ago. Many of the Jikkas are still living in Ruti, though many more now live in the tribe where Brad works. Ruti was a very remote place, in fact, it was the one of the last villages at the end of the main road. One of the most striking things about this trip was the discovery that this little village had a movie theater! There were no padded seats or popcorn stands; it was just one very long hut. At the front of the hut was a little stand where they set a small television screen. They charge an admission price and the villagers cram into this hut to watch a film. I was struck with that thought that while we are watching them on National Geographic, they are watching us! Film is such a powerful, universal tool!

The minute we stepped off the plane here in Mt. Hagen we were in full production mode. Thankfully we had a night to recover in Port Moresby before arriving here and the jet lag had somewhat worn off. Both Kayla and i did however wake up at 3am for the first few mornings.

Brad Wells' ministry is constantly moving and there is always something exciting going on. The last few days has been their annual kids camp. Many decisions have been made for Christ and there have been some tremendous shot opportunities that I can't wait to put into the film!

Tomorrow we will be getting some aerial shots with Bro Matt Allen. Pray for safety if you would. They are taking the doors off the plane so that I can have a wide field of view from which to shoot. 

Uploading videos from here has proven to be quite tedious but I will try to post some sample footage soon.

After a couple days in Lancaster, CA shooting some video for Lancaster Baptist Church we headed off to NAB in Las Vegas. It is a large annual convention for all things filmmaking and media. I was a great experience and although we only spent one full day there, we came away with a lot of helpful information.
